Estudiantes de La Plata shows support for Verón after AFA sanction

Buenos Aires, November 27 (NA) - Estudiantes de La Plata issued a statement on social networks this Thursday in support of President Juan Sebastián Verón following the harsh sanction imposed by the Argentine Football Association (AFA). According to the Argentine News Agency, 'Pincha' confirmed through its official X (Twitter) account that the Platense institution is analyzing the ruling of the Disciplinary Tribunal 'in order to take the appropriate measures to defend the interests of the institution and its members.' The former midfielder and current head of 'El León' was suspended from his position for six months after taking responsibility for the players' decision to turn their backs on Rosario Central in the hallway after the regulatory body designated them as 'League Champions.' In the same vein, the social media post concluded: 'In this context, the Board of Directors expresses its full support for President Juan Sebastián Verón, Santiago Núñez, and the entire professional squad.' Although Verón received the harshest penalty, the eleven starting players who took to the field at the Gigante de Arroyito to face 'El Canalla' and were involved in the controversial incident were suspended for two matches. However, the AFA clarified that the 'suspensions imposed in point 2,' i.e., those of the footballers, will only take effect in the next official tournament. Therefore, the match against Central Córdoba in the quarterfinals of the Playoffs will not be affected by these sanctions.
